The Mistery of Light
Darkness falls. The lamps go out and the world falls asleep, frozen in stillness. Suddenly someone rubs a match and the candle’s wick ignites with a flame that casts long shadows across the dark landscape. Thus, with the birth of light, our story begins. It will lead through the celebratios of a joyful community, the dance floor of a Jewish wedding, the sadness and melancholy hid in the rubble of the Warsaw Ghetto, the red-hot and endless Balkan steppes, to end on Friday evening when together with the women, we will light two Shabbat candles to mark the beginning of the sacred time of Shabbat, the time of rest and celebration, in rememberence of the miracle of the creation of the world.
